Q. Where do I find information on patents?

The BYU Library has great resources for patent research!

1) Go to the Mechanical Engineering Subject Guide  - Scroll down to "Patent Searching." These are excellent academic resources.

Below are free resources to search for patents open to almost anyone. Most services are comparable to our paid-for sources and provide great information.

2) The official United States Patent and Trademark Office This search engine is a little complicated to use so it may be of use to look at the instructions in searching. Look for the Seven Step Strategy
