The Ancient Studies Room on Level 5 Central includes item from both Classical and Ancient Near Eastern Studies.

About the room and the collection:

  • The room houses an impressive collection of texts from Mesopotamia, Ancient Greece, the Ancient Roman World and the Holy Land. There are eighteen different languages represented including Hebrew, Greek, Latin, Egyptian and Arabic.
  • The collection began largely through the efforts of Hugh Nibley. BYU also received nearly four-hundred books on the Dead Sea Scrolls and the Qumran Community from Dr. Fredrick Young.

Materials in the Ancient Studies should be used in the room and do not normally circulate.

For questions regarding this collection, please contact either Trevan Hatch (Trevan_Hatch@byu.edu) or Robert Maxwell (Robert_Maxwell@byu.edu).
