The BYU Library has great resources for patent research!

1) Go to the Mechanical Engineering Subject Guide  - Click on "Background Sources" - Scroll down to "Patent Searching." These are excellent academic resources.

Below are free resources to search for patents open to almost anyone. Most services are comparable to our paid-for sources and provide great information.

2) Google Patents Google Patents Search for what you want to know about.

3) The official United States Patent and Trademark Office This search engine is a little complicated to use so it may be of use to look at the instructions in searching. Look for the Seven Step Strategy

For more information about patents or anything else related to business and economics. Feel free to visit one of the business librarians or their student assistants on Level 1 in the library.
